Life Groups FAQ
1. What is a Life Group?
Most of our Life Groups are made up of 10 to 15 people who want to grow spiritually and connect with some friends who are going in the same direction. Sometimes the best description is simply a group of people who want to make some friends and become more like Christ.
2. Why should I join a Life Group?
Here are 3 reasons. First, you will make some new friends and connect as part of a community rather than just being a face in the crowd, second you will grow spiritually and more Christ-like and finally you get the opportunity to engage with others on their spiritual journey.
3. How often does a Life Group meet?
Our groups meet 2 to 4 times a month and they meet on a predictable day and time (i.e., Tuesdays from 7:00-9:00 p.m.).
4. What happens at a Life Group meeting?
Every group is different but there are some common threads. Most groups have a time for just hanging out, talking about the week and what's going on in life. The central component is a study of something relevant to the members of the group. It may be the study of a book of the Bible like 1 John; a topical book such as Sacred Marriage or Learning from Jesus which incorporates Scripture, or following the weekly Cornerstone study guide to dive deeper into what Pastor Steve is teaching each week. Our groups are designed to facilitate friendship, encourage discussion, help us to pray and serve in community and engage each person in the process.
5. How long does a typical Life Group stay together?
Our groups follow a yearly rhythm of 3 months on and 1 month off. This allows leaders and members to meet and then have a break which is good for learning and good for the soul. You could join a group for as little as 12 weeks, and change to a new group, or you can stay with the same group for as long as you like.
6. Where do Life Groups meet?
Most of our groups meet in homes. A few of our groups meet in local restaurants, office buildings, or at the church.
7. What if I don't like the first group I try?
We want to encourage you to give the group you try a couple visits. Anytime you're trying something new, it may need to grow on you. In addition, it may take a couple of times to begin to feel like you're in the right place. But at the same time, we want you to find a group that fits you! So don't be afraid to get a second opinion if you don't really feel good about the group you try.
8. Is there childcare available?
Every group deals with this issue in its own way. Some of the groups go in together and make arrangements for a baby sitter, some groups are kid-friendly, some provide childcare for everyone, while others may ask each person to make their own arrangements.
9. How do I get into a group?
Three options:
(1) Go to the Life Group Finder on the website and sign up
(2) Request information using the Getting to Know You tear off card.
(3) Stop by the Life Group counter in the Courtyard at any weekend service and we will get you plugged into a group today.
10. Can I start my own group?
Yes. We love it when people are interested in leading or hosting a group of their own, and we are always in need of new groups.
